Villa rustica

Negative crop marks in wheat often initially only show up due to slight discolouration features and small height differences in length growth. In this villa rustica flown over on 05.06.2017, the foundation walls of the main building and an outbuilding appear as lighter lines in the lush green of the cultivated area.

This detail shot of the main building shows that vertical shots of vegetation features do not necessarily lead to more information. Due to the steep angle of the shot, the differences in growth height of the plants hardly come to bear, and the image of the building appears less vivid than in the oblique shot above.

The area was then flown over again with the infrared camera. In the infrared image, the foundation walls of the main building stand out much more clearly as dark lines. In contrast to the normal image, the second corner risalit is now also clearly visible.
