Latène grave gardens as positive crop marks

Early summer 2014 was spent flying over an area where 2 square structures were known from previous aerial photographs. In the ripening winter barley, these two structures stand out clearly as still green vegetation features in the mostly already yellowed field.

Only one month later, a part of this very field had to be archaeologically investigated, as the construction of a large machine hall was planned. The left, smaller quadrangle was affected by the construction work and was excavated.

In the vertical photograph, the 4 post traces of the inner building and the entrance area leading to the south with a ditch interruption can be clearly seen. The finds confirm the assumption that these ditches were grave gardens from the Latène period.
