Positive crop marks of a group of burial mounds in cereals

Although the spring and early summer of 2015 in the Munich area did not bring any pronounced dry periods and thus the conditions for crop marks were not favourable, this example shows that even then ground features can be recognised from the air by crop marks. A long known group of barrows was revealed in June 2015 by slight differences in the growth height of the winter barley. The differences in height were vividly highlighted by a low sun in the early morning hours. At least 4 circular ditches and individual rectangular (burial) pits can be seen.

A nice example that it is worthwhile to fly over a site again in the following years, even with such great pictures, was shown in pictures of this tumulus group from 14.06.2017. Barley was cultivated in the field again this year. In the early, very low morning sun, the positive crop marks already recorded in 2015 become even more apparent and detailed. For example, to the right of the 2 directly adjacent circular ditches, post marks are clearly visible at the entrance area and in front of it.
