Positive crop marks of a Late Latène quadrangular enclosure in ripening grain

In August 2014, a completely levelled Late Latène quadrangular enclosure discovered by O. Braasch in the early 1980s was flown over. This archaeological monument had already been affected at its south-west corner by the filling of a bridge approach. At the time of the flight, the grain had ripened and the harvest had begun. From a flight altitude of approx. 77m, the remaining ditches of the quadrangle enclosure are clearly visible due to discolouration features. Furthermore, pits and postholes can be made out both inside and outside the square enclosure. Another ditch running parallel to the north side of the square enclosure is interesting.

The shot taken from the south-east shows how important it is to be in the right place at the right time. The combine had already worked its way up to the north-east corner of the quadrangle, but had then interrupted harvesting the previous evening. The following day, the field was completely harvested, and the crop marks that had just been visible had vanished like a ghost.
